Just as the title says I'm looking for mentor and thought i would look out to this sub and see if anyone has found one online before and your experience, or insight to it. I have googled a lot and honestly it made it harder for me to figure out just where I should go. So I've come here.I am also open to trying to connect with someone from here. I put a little below regarding me and why I am looking for one. I have tried to work in the industry but its not easy with my experience to get hired. the majority of companies are looking for entry level or strictly sales, and I want to see the operations side as well.Basic Background:First, I am an expat from the US living in Asia. I have been there a decade and in Sr roles, and have also owned my own consulting company prior to selling it to return to the US for a couple years. Ive now returned to Asia but decided to venture out on my own again so that I could spend 50% of my time in US or at least more than 2 weeks for Christmas. I've been as I said an owner but besides that sitting right at the director and Sr Director levels including managing the full operations of Vietnam for a company that sources there. My background is Logistics and FF, my passion that lead me there is Economics and Trade. I love trade and that's where I will be jumping off. Trade is totally different then Consulting, in particular I will be participating in all 3 major sides. EMC, ETC and in time with more capital a Merchant taking ownership.The Issue:Being overseas for some of the most critical times in my career, although learning a great deal, I feel I have missed the opportunity to have true mentor-ship in business. I had a wonderful mentor (unofficially) in my early 20s and when I went to college for my degree in my mid 20's. However, no matter how smart I like to think I am, I know I have deficits in my leadership capability, and general business acumen. I have dabbled with the thought of an MBA to make up that shortcoming however the time and monetary investment pushes me to the age old, just get on the damn horse and ride to learn. A simple image to help you understand is what I tell everyone about the negatives to living overseas.I grew up around my grandparents and their friends. They are all WW2, Korean War, Vietnam War vets, cops and firefighters as well as others... I learned a tremendous amount about the world and life. Back home, I could sit in a coffee shop or elevator and pick up great ideas and thoughts from people of all ages and backgrounds. Once you go overseas its like the lights getting turned off. The most pivotal idea in the world or impact statement for my life could be said and I would have no clue. Living and Leading overseas has been a great experience packed full of learning, however with the lights off 80% of the time, I've done a lot of blind feeling around to grow.What I would be looking for:I would love to find someone who helps keep me on track, alert me to pitfalls I am heading toward and in general open my eyes up to leading (even if I'm just leading myself in the beginning) properly.
